Using Instagram Stories For Your Italian Listening Practice

10/01/2020

Instagram Stories are a perfect tool to practice languages. In this post, you'll find some interesting profiles to use for your Italian listening practice

Instagram is a really awesome tool for practicing languages.

Even when it was only used to share photos, it was a great way to learn new words, improve vocabulary, or practice reading comprehension. Nowadays, with Instagram Stories, Ig Tv, and Reels, it is literally packed with useful content you can use to improve your language skills.

What I love about using Instagram to practice languages is that there you can find the real language people speak, not the type of carefully curated language material you find on books or websites. In fact, on Instagram normal people speak about their daily lives, about their likes and dislikes, about their hobbies, as if they were speaking to their friends.

This is why Instagram is so valuable if you want to learn and understand the language people use every day. Moreover, you don’t have to look for resources around the web, it’s all there in the app and you can use it to learn and practice while checking your friend’s holiday photos or when you need something to pass the time while queueing at the supermarket.

Since I really believe it can be a very useful tool, I have decided to select some of my favorite profiles focusing especially on those people who speak a lot on Instagram Stories or Ig tv, with the belief that listening to them speak about their lives on a daily basis could be a truly effective Italian listening practice.

Most of the profiles I have selected use Instagram for work and therefore their stories are mainly focused on a specific topic, be it food, fashion, books, art, or other stuff. Needless to say, I will make sure to mention the main topic of their stories, so that you can choose depending on what you like. I hope you will find something interesting and useful for your daily dose of the Italian language!

Here is a list of Instagram profiles you can use for your Italian listening practice.

The Bluebird Kitchen

Her name is Francesca and she has an awesome food blog called The Bluebird Kitchen. Her Instagram profile is one of my favorites because she is incredibly genuine and down-to-heart – plus, her recipes are super yummy, which is always good. She does Instagram stories about food, sustainable living, and her animals (a dog, a cat, and two hens) and she has a YouTube channel too. You can find her on Instagram here.

Cook the Look

Speaking of food and cooking, I have to mention a lady who has the great power of always putting me in a good mood. Her name is Giorgia, she has a food blog called Cook the Look and works as a food writer and tv host. On Instagram, she shares bits of her daily life, she posts lots of video recipes and also talks about her passion for vintage clothing. As I said, I like her because she has a super positive attitude. You can find her on Instagram here.

Valefatina

If Giorgia has the power to put me in a good mood, Valentina is perfect to calm me down when I feel anxious. She has a super soothing voice and that’s one of the reasons I like her stories so much. Actually, she also is a great cook, has a food blog called Brodo di coccole, and works as a food writer and content creator. In her stories, she shares her daily meals and gives lots of suggestions for meal preparation and cooking in general. You can find her on Instagram here.

Agrimani

If the previous profiles focus on food and cooking, this one is mainly about growing and harvesting food. In fact, Agrimani are Francesca and Beppe: they own an organic farm near Turin and sell their vegetables at local markets or via their website. In their stories, they have a series called Lunedì agricoli, where they talk about their work and give explanations about how vegetables are grown. I especially like the ones with la perfida suocera (the wicked mother-in-law) because they are super fun. You can find them on Instagram here.

Homescious

Nene is a friend of mine but I want to share her profile not because I like her a lot – which I do – but mostly because her Instagram stories are full of interesting content. She has a website called Homescious, focused on wellbeing for the home, the body, the soul, and the planet. On Instagram, she talks about wellness, sustainability, and plants. She also has a very interesting YouTube channel with longer videos about the same topics. You can find her on Instagram here.

Lorenzo Bises

If you are a lover of art, museums, and vintage things, I am sure you’ll love the Instagram profile of Lorenzo Bises. There you will find lots of stories with very detailed accounts of his visits to historic places, museums, and galleries all around Italy. Based in Milan and with a degree in art history, he knows everything about the city and its secrets – and tells you all the best places to buy vintage stuff! You can find him on Instagram here.

Carotilla

Camilla Mendini is a fashion designer with a focus on sustainability and ethical clothing. She has a website called Carotilla, where she gives tips to live a more sustainable life. In her stories on Instagram, she tells about her daily life in the USA – she is Italian but she moved there a few years ago – and talks about sustainability and green living. You can find her on Instagram here.

Tegamini

She speaks really fast, so probably her profile is recommended for advanced speakers only, but I wanted to include her anyway because she is really nice and funny. Her name is Francesca, she works as a translator and writes about books on Tegamini, her blog. In her stories, she talks about her daily life, her passion for books, and all the things she gets sent almost daily. You can find her on Instagram here.

These are some of my favorite Instagram profiles and I hope you will find at least one that catches your interest. If not, just leave a comment below specifying a topic you are interested in and I will do my best to find a good Instagram profile that meets your needs!

Yes, I do! I follow Arbanella_Art, she is really nice and funny, and her stories are always really interesting. I also follow Elisa Sasso Ceramiche, but I don’t remember if she speaks a lot in her stories.

There are 2 subjects I would like to follow if you have recommendations. First is Italian fashion for mature women and the second is hair styles and makeup for mature women. Many of us really admire Italian women and would love to have them share their routines, products and styles.
