You love reading Italian books and use them as a way to practice – and improve – your Italian skills, but it seems you easily forget what you learned. You feel as if you cannot retain new words, and, after a short while, you don’t remember much about the book.
You enjoy your reading experience, but you’re also a bit frustrated because you think it could be more useful and effective as a language practice. I have experienced the same feeling, and I know what you need: a reading journal. A reading journal is a companion, a tool that helps you reflect on what you read and remember it better.
I read books to practice my English skills, and even though I have always loved this activity, it became really effective as a language practice only when I started keeping a reading journal. Before doing that, I felt it was really difficult for me to memorize new words and grammar elements. When I started writing down notes, keeping track of my reading experience step by step, I realized I was able to retain way more about the book. Also, the notes are always there for me to review and go back to!
The reading journal has been a real game-changer for me when using books as a language practice. This is why I decided to create a reading journal you can use for your Italian practice. Based on my personal experience with English books, I designed it with different sections to write about your expectations before reading, then about the plot, the characters, the setting, and other elements, and obviously, sections to reflect on the book after reading it. Needless to say, there are also sections specifically focused on language elements like vocabulary and grammar.
My Diario di lettura is an Italian reading journal designed to enrich your reading experience in Italian.
If you read in Italian or want to try doing it, this Italian reading journal can be a precious companion. It can be a tool to keep with you to write down notes about different elements of the book, not only language elements, but meaning and content as well. By writing things down and following the prompts given, you will actively use the language, which is always the best way to memorize new elements and improve your skills.
