1-on-1 conversations are a fantastic way to practice speaking skills and comprehension, but it is also important to complement the individual speaking practice with interaction with other students. Group conversations are fun and help you step out of your comfort zone, encouraging you to speak with people you don’t know and use your Italian in different ways.
When I asked my students and my newsletter readers what they wanted for 2026, the number one request was having the opportunity to interact with other students. They wanted the chance not only to speak, but also to hear other learners speak Italian and discuss topics with a wider group of people.
This is what inspired Comincia tu!, my Italian group conversation program.
Comincia tu! is a traditional online conversation group with Zoom classes. Since I want all participants to have plenty of speaking time, classes will be small. Additionally, I want to avoid anyone feeling overwhelmed, so each program will last only one month, consisting of four weekly meetings. Each program will have a specific theme, and all conversations will somehow be centered around that theme.
Here are the general details:
– A group conversation program designed to make you interact with other students
– Small classes: a maximum of 6 students (the program will start with a minimum of 3 students)
– Materials to work on before each conversation: one week before each meeting, you’ll get materials (article, video, podcast, etc.) to work on to prepare for the conversation
– Language level: B1 or higher
– 4 weekly 90-minute Zoom meetings
– Price: 79 USD (includes all the sessions + all the materials)
The next group conversation program will start in July. Here are the specific details:
– The July theme is summer. We’ll explore the vocabulary to talk about the season, we’ll use the past tense (passato prossimo and imperfetto) to talk about our summers when we were young, we’ll listen to music, and we’ll discuss many different aspects of this beautiful but sometimes difficult season.
– We’ll meet each Monday at 2 pm Italian time on Zoom
– The dates of our sessions are: July 6th – July 13th – July 20th – July 27th.
